Last year the Philadelphia Eagles made former Pitt running back Dion Lewis their 5th round selection, and the former freshman All American carried the ball 23 times for 102 yards and a touchdown last season. Now comes new that early Saturday morning -- really early -- Lewis and his brother were arrested on 2 charges, including one felony.
Lewis and his brother got back to their hotel room around 4:00 A.M., but had apparently forgotten their key because according to the hotel's manager the doors lock at midnight for everyone that doesn't have a key. Lewis and his brother banged on the front sliding doors of the hotel initially. When that didn't work the allegedly drunk brothers pulled the fire alarm because that's the right way to get the attention of the hotel staff -- and the police and firemen.
Lewis and his brother were charged with felony falsely reporting a fire and misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Lewis has since apologized for the arrest. I wouldn't be surprised to see the felony dropped if his brother takes the heat for the charge, I can probably assume they weren't holding hands when the alarm got pulled.
Update: Well the charges against Dion Lewis have been dropped, and video of the arrest has been released -- and it might show why they were dropped. Lewis and his brother are seen in the video walking around between doors, when police show up guns and pepper spray drawn, get them on the ground, hand cuff them, and then they are seen dragging Lewis out of the building. The incident is under review by the police, however they believe they were acting appropriately as they believed a knife was on the two and they were trying to break into the hotel.
