Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins set multiple records last year as a freshman wide receiver last year, catching 82 passes for over 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns. Now a drug charge might hinder his playing time, at least for the beginning of the season.
Watkins and Clemson soccer player Amadou-Tidiane Daniel Dia were pulled over when police noticed the car they were in hit a curb, as well as not having a light on the license plate. When police approached the car they smelled marijuana and with that probable cause they searched and found prescription pills that were not prescribed to Watkins. When asked why the car might smell like marijuana Watkins stated that he had just gotten into the car not too long before. The drugs found were Adderall and Vyvance, another ADD medicine. Both Watkins and Dia were found to have marijuana on themselves as well.
Both Dia and Watkins were arrested and released later on bond.
