Vikings WR Bernard Berrian has dug himself a few holes this week, mainly against decorated veterans. First -- a Vikings fan tweeted the following:
“If you want to follow a hilarious Twitter account, try @B_Twice who says that he’s open a lot and should get the ball more.”
To which Berrian responded:
"Anytime u wanna watch the film with me. Not just one game but all of them. ... and if not sit down n shut up!!"
That wouldn't be a problem -- if the Vikings fan he had tweeted wasn't Minnesota state representative John Kriesel -- and Iraqi war veteran who lost both of his legs in the war.
If that wasn't bad enough, Matt Ufford aka Captain Caveman of the blog KissingSuzyKolber, a NFL satire website, posted a funny collection of fake Bernard Berrian tweets, which included a puppy, the pope, and the damn Dalai Lama tweeting @B_twice and his responses. Needless to say -- Berrian was not amused and send his PR staff to send a cease and desist order. Ufford tried to talk to her personally, saying that it was satire, it was labeled as satire, and that any proceeds off of that link would go to a charity of Berrian's choice and that he would be allowed a rebuttal. He/PR Agent refused and he removed the post.
That would be all fine and dandy, but he himself is a decorated vet of the Iraqi war who raised $34,000 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation - which provides benefits and scholarships to the families of wounded and deceased special ops servicemen.
Now I realize these are both things that he couldn't possibly have known. However, maybe a receiver who hasn't once in his entire career reached 1,000 yards in a season, nor scored 10 touchdowns in a single season and hasn't reached a single Pro bowl should watch what he says, and perhaps "sit down and shut up." Let alone ask for the ball and say he's open. There is real wide outs out there for that.
