Florida Gators star CB Janoris Jenkins has found himself in trouble again for the 3rd time in just under 2 years, and the second time for marijuana in under 3 months.
The first arrest in 2011 came just weeks following his decision to stay at Florida instead of opting for the NFL Draft which after being first team All-SEC he may have been a first round draft pick. He was caught rolling a joint in a club bathroom.
This time he was smoking a cigar in his vehicle downtown Gainesville shortly at about 12:35 this morning. When police approached his vehicle he got out of the car and walked away, and after an investigation police found the burnt marijuana filled cigar. He was then cited for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.
This may spell then end of the Jenkins era in Florida, as two arrests under first year head coach Will Muschamp might lead him to make an example, which would lead to Jenkins joining the Supplemental Draft.
Update: Janoris Jenkins has been dismissed from the Florida football team after a meeting with Will Muschamp. The news came via a tweet from Muschamp:
@CoachWMuschamp: After meeting with Janoris Jenkins today, we both felt it was in his best interest to move ahead to the next stage of his career.
Next option for Jenkins will be either to enter the Supplemental draft, or to transfer to a lower division to play immediately for the next year. Odds are that he is going to enter the Supplemental draft, and likely be a fairly high pick by some team that is not worried about the marijuana smoking.
