Timote Nai Fotu, a Junior LB for the Utah Utes who played in 38 of 39 games (starting 9) up until a knee injury knocked him out for the entire season last season, was arrested for DUI Sunday morning. When you think of a DUI happening Sunday morning, you usually figure he was driving back from the bars 2:00 - 3:00 AM and was pulled over for driving erratically or puking out of the drivers side window. Nope, not Fotu. He was pulled over at 10:00 AM for speeding, and then arrested for DUI. His arrest also included charges of Open Container, One Way Traffic violation, Speeding, Driving without a license, and Unlawful Purchase, Possession, or Consumption by a minor. No other details from the arrest have been given yet.
Suspension Update: Utah Head Coach Kyle Whittingham has stated that Fotu is suspended until further notice. Or until this charge gets lowered to a reckless driving. Or until Fotu finally invites Whittingham out with him. What a jerk.
Drunk Ass Update: Dashcam video has been released, and it's a pleasant viewing. Police roll up on the freeway with Fotu's car parked on the side of the road going in the wrong direction. He gets patted down against the wall of the free way for things that might poke him. And then Fotu slurs his words through every second of there conversation on the free way, but apparently he was coherent to answer the officers question, "Do you even know where you're at right now?" His response? : "Utah". He states that he was with his teammates and that's where he was coming from. He does the eye and pen test, and then the walk the line test. He is told to take 9 steps one way, turn on his left foot, and then 9 steps back. Simple enough. Fotu took 17 steps.
The officer gives him a breathlyzer and small talks him about football before placing him under arrest. The breathlyzer read a .218, nearly 3 times the legal limit.
