Rickey Thenarse S Nebraska

Senior safety Rickey Thenarse was celebrating his graduation from the university of Nebraska when he was arrested for DUI early Sunday morning. Thenarse car was found stopped in the  middle of a downtown street at around 2 AM with Thenarse found passed out inside the vehicle. breathalyzer tests showed his BAC to be at .11, above the legal limit. Thenarse was also charged with driving on a suspended license, as well as impeding traffic. Thenarse has since been suspended by head coach Bo Pelini, saying:

It saddens me to announce that Rickey Thenarse will be suspended for the Holiday Bowl due to a violation of team rules, Rickey is a young man who has faced and overcome as much adversity and tragedy in his life as any person I’ve known. But he also understands that he’s accountable for his actions."

And overcome adversity he has throughout his life and college football career. He spent 9th grade in a juvenile detention center, his car got completely shot up while in his hometown of Watts while he did not take a bullet himself, and his brother was a leader of the Watt's blood gang who had gotten murdered by a rival gang. After the funeral, he returned home for spring break and was with his other brother when gang violence erupted again and his other brother was shot and killed by a drive by shooting. He used these as motivations to get out of the gang filled area and pursue his dreams and get a college degree. This suspension is just another obstacle for him to overcome.
