Trevor Hankins P Arizona State

Arizona State was without their starting punter Trevor Hankins against USC, and placekicker Thomas Weber was given the duties to punt along with kicking. In the end, Weber must have gotten worn out because his kickoffs gave USC great field position, and he had a extra point and a punt blocked. Along with that, he missed a 42 yard field goal to win the game. It ends up that Hankins missed the game and gave Weber extra duties because he was arrested for DUI.

Hankins was pulled over for making two illegal U-turns and drifting into the left lane around 1:30 AM. He claimed that he was called by friends that were too intoxicated to drive, and he was on his way to pick them up. He claimed the two U-turns were because his passenger thought that he had left his wallet at a convenience store. The officers asked him if he had been drinking, and he said that he had 2 or 3 drinks at a friends house a half hour earlier. He ended up being charged with DUI - Impaired to the Slightest Degree.

Hankins is averaging 47.1 yards per punt at Arizona State, which would put him tied for third with Dallas Cowboys Matt McBriar in the NFL. The Redshirt-Senior is currently ranked as the #5 draftable punter by NFLDraftScout in the NCAA, with a possibility of getting drafted.

  1. are punters really players? I remember Antonio Pierce on SN saying that they weren't respected...
