Dezmon Briscoe WR Tampa Bay Buccaneers

At the end of his great college career, Dezmon Briscoe had earned first team All Big 12, and had the Kansas career records for receiving yards. He had good height (6 foot 2 inches), good speed, a great college career, but was plagued with inconsistency. He ended up falling to the Cincinnati Bengals in the 6th round of the NFL draft, and he was waived on the final cut down day. Then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers jumped in and signed him, to a HUGE contract -- for the practice squad. So big, in fact, it angered Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. What the Buccaneers did was sign him to the rookie minimum for the active roster, a whopping $320,000, as compared to the $83,200 that practice squad players usually get. Raheem Morris basically said, "Sucks for you nerd, maybe you shouldn't have released him in the first place. Good luck with Quan Cosby and Jerome Simpson."

Today, finally they promoted him to the active roster. I'm sure he'd love to catch more than 2 passes for 2 yards, to outproduce the guy the Bengals kept to release him. However, those are his career stats in 3 years, not this season. Might not be that hard.

Finally, this is just another piece of an awesome bit of rookies that the Buccaneers have accumulated. With the breakout season of mid round pick Mike Williams, the steal of undrafted free agent LaGarrette Blount, the great play of 7th round pick Cody Grimm (who recently ended up on the IR), talented first and second round picks Gerald McCoy, Brian Price, and Arrelious Benn, this could just be another addition to a fine set of rookies.
